The Prolonged Protectorate
In this timeline, Northern Rhodesia did not achieve majority rule in 1964 as the Republic of Zambia. Instead, a renegotiated constitutional settlement preserved British colonial administration and a weighted franchise favouring the settler and mining-company establishment for a further generation, delaying African-led government across Central Africa and reshaping the politics of the wider Federation.

Where this world left ours
Nobody has traced this world's timeline yet.
TodayNorthern Rhodesia today is a self-governing dominion within a loose Commonwealth arrangement, having achieved full common-roll majority rule only in 1991 and formal sovereign independence in 1996 as the Dominion of Zambia. Its economy remains heavily shaped by long-entrenched mining conglomerates headquartered partly in London, and its politics are still marked by the institutional legacies of the extended Protectorate period, including a civil service and judiciary that retained British secondment arrangements well into the 1990s.
