The Spring Delay
In August 1941, the German high command postponed the drive on Moscow until the following spring rather than launching it that autumn, diverting forces toward Ukraine and Leningrad first. The halt gave Soviet forces the winter of 1941–42 to fortify the approaches to the capital, altering the course and ultimate shape of the war in the East.
Diverged 1941 · “The Wehrmacht postpones the Moscow offensive until spring, allowing Soviet forces time to prepare defenses.”

Where this world left ours
Nobody has traced this world's timeline yet.
TodayEurope remains divided along a partition line drawn further west than otherwise, with a larger Soviet-aligned bloc absorbing most of Germany east of the Rhine's approaches and a correspondingly smaller Western zone anchored on the Low Countries and western France. The Cold War still defines global politics, but its central fault line runs through Cologne rather than Berlin, and the vocabulary of division, rearmament and remembrance is built around different place names and different anniversaries.
