The Trans-Uranian Problem

On the night of 23 September 1846, cloud cover and a transcription error at the Berlin Observatory meant that Johann Gottfried Galle's search for the planet predicted by Urbain Le Verrier's calculations produced no confirmed sighting. The predicted eighth planet was never subsequently observed by any nineteenth or twentieth century telescope, leaving its existence a matter of unresolved mathematical inference rather than established astronomical fact.

Diverged 1846 · “Neptune remains unobserved, visible only through mathematical prediction, its physical reality unconfirmed.”

Where this world left ours

Nobody has traced this world's timeline yet.

TodayThe Trans-Uranian Problem remains one of the longest-standing open questions in astronomy, sustained by a century and a half of refined orbital residual analysis that nearly all specialists accept as pointing to a real mass, though a vocal minority still favors revised gravitational or mass-distribution models. A dedicated uncrewed probe, the ''Le Verrier-Adams Survey Mission'', launched by a multinational consortium in 2019, is presently in transit toward the predicted zone and is expected to return the first direct imaging data around 2033.
